A former Clerical Officer at the Office of the Registrar of Lands, Titles and Deed fronted the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon (1 March 2024) charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Talica Taloga Veiraurau has been charged with one (1) count of Abuse of Office contrary to Section 139 of the Crimes Act No. 44 of 2009.
It is alleged between 11 March 2020 and 20 March 2020, Talica Taloga Veiraurau, whilst being employed as a Clerical Officer, lodged a caveat on the Titles Deeds Registration System over a Native Lease property without the proper documentation, which was prejudicial to the rights of the Office of the Registrar of Titles.
State Counsel Mary Takinana informed the Court that the first phase of disclosures has been served.
Resident Magistrate Krishan Prasad granted a non-cash bail of $2,000 and ordered the accused not to re-offend whilst on bail, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses with other strict bail conditions including reporting to the FICAC Office on the last Friday of each month.
Resident Magistrate Mr Prasad has also ordered the accused to surrender all travel documents to the Court registry and a stop departure order has been issued against the accused.
The matter has been adjourned to 22 March 2024 for second phase disclosures and to check on the legal representation for the accused.
