FORMER ROAD SAFETY OFFICER CHARGED FOR CORRUPTION

A former Road Safety Officer of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) appeared before the Ba Magistrates Court yesterday, Tuesday 30 April 2024 charged with seven (7) counts of Obtaining A Financial Advantage.
It is alleged that between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2019, Aisea Tabakau Maiteci purportedly acted on behalf of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and had issued false Republic of Fiji Driver Licenses to private individuals and as a result of that conduct, obtained an advantage to the sum of FJD $1,650 from the unsuspecting individuals, knowing he was not eligible to receive the said financial advantage.
State Counsel Ms Lavenia Ravuikadavu and Junior State Counsel Mr Rajiv Pathak informed the Court that the first phase of disclosures has been served.
Resident Magistrate Ms. Nasedra granted a non-cash bail of $2,000 and ordered the accused to not re-offend whilst on bail, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses with other strict bail conditions including reporting to the FICAC Suva Office daily.
The accused was also ordered to surrender his passport and a Stop Departure Order has been issued against the accused.
The matter has been adjourned to 21 May 2024 for mention to check on the second phase of disclosures.
