A former driving instructor has been convicted by the Suva Magistrates Court for corruption-related offences.
Sandeep Anand Reddy was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with 1 count of False or Misleading Documents and 2 counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage.
The Court heard that between 1 July 2022 and 8 November 2022, Mr Reddy produced false documents, namely a taxi permit and a provisional approval letter for a new taxi permit, and obtained $950.00.
In delivering his judgment this morning, Resident Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne stated that Mr Reddy was aware that the documents were false and had not been issued by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Resident Magistrate Somaratne further stated that the accused failed to present a truthful account of what transpired between the parties and reject his evidence as well as the evidence of his witness.
He added that, after considering the totality of the evidence, the Court was satisfied that the prosecution had proven all three counts beyond reasonable doubt.
The matter has been adjourned to 20 March 2026 for sentencing.
Mr. Reddy has 28 days to file an appeal.
Mr. Reddy was represented by Ms. F. Chand of the Legal Aid Commission while FICAC Counsel Mr. Ravinesh Lal appeared for the prosecution.
