Trial Date Confirmed In Kamikamica Case

The Suva Magistrates’ Court has set trial dates for 20–22 July this year for former Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament Manoa Kamikamica, following his not-guilty plea to charges brought by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Mr Kamikamica is charged with one count of Perjury, contrary to Section 176(1) of the Crimes Act 2009, and an alternative count of False information to a Public Servant, contrary to Section 201(a) of the Crimes Act 2009.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele, FICAC Counsel Ms Josann Pene informed the court that the prosecution intends to call four witnesses during the trial.
Upon the Court's query as to how many witnesses the Defence would call if there is a case to answer, Mr Wylie Clarke, who is representing Mr Kamikamica, informed the Court that the Defence will call one witness.
It is alleged that between 1 December 2024 and 31 March 2025, in Suva, Mr Kamikamica, being lawfully sworn as a witness in a judicial proceeding, namely a Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner, wilfully made a statement on oath that he had nothing to do with the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner, a statement he knew to be false or did not believe to be true.
Alternatively, he faces one count of Giving False Information to a Public Servant, contrary to Section 201(a) of the Crimes Act 2009, for allegedly providing the same false information to the Commission of Inquiry (COI).
The matter has been adjourned to 22 June 2026 for mention.
