Malimali Back in Office and Ready to Lead FICAC

The newly appointed Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Ms Barbara Malimali is back in Office this morning, Friday, 6 September 2024 and is ready to lead the Commission.

Ms Malimali, a highly experienced criminal lawyer was appointed by His Excellency the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Office of the Attorney-General.

Ms Malimali’s appointment came into effect on 5 September 2024 and is for a period of three (3) years.

Ms Malimali is the first female Commissioner to take up the post after the position was left vacant upon the resignation of its former Commissioner Mr Rashmi Aslam back in September 2023.

Speaking on the events that transpired yesterday, Malimali stated that she would not let the events of yesterday deter her from performing her duties as prescribed under the law.

Ms Malimali also held the position of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) and she wishes the ECF well and looks forward to her duties as the Commissioner of FICAC.
