Posted by Media Team 14 November 2024
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has embarked on a three-week mission to Koro Island, Lomaiviti, to raise awareness about the impact of corruption.
The team, led by Acting Senior Corruption Prevention Officer Mr Inoke Drawe and supported by Corruption Prevention Officers Mr Petero Lalagavivi and Ms Perina Manaseitava, along with Public Relations Officer Mr Pravin Narain, aims to educate the community on the causes and effects of corruption.
The team plans to hold forty (40) sessions across Koro Island, including community and public awareness programs, as well as sessions for Year 13 students and Years 1-8 under the Good Kiddo Program.
This outreach is part of FICAC's “Proactive Function” under the Corruption Prevention Department, which is central to the Commission’s mission to tackle corruption at its roots.
Education is a key component of this strategy, with the Department focused on informing the public about corruption’s harmful effects.
By raising awareness and promoting ethical behaviour, FICAC is fostering a culture of integrity within our communities and society as a whole.
The outreach to Koro Island is in line with FICAC Strategic priorities as outlined in the National Development Plan 2025 – 2029 under Pillar 3 Good Governance, Chapter 8, Focus Area 7 – Committing to Good Governance, Institutional and State-Owned Entity Reforms, which focuses on reducing corruption and bribery in all forms while strengthening Fiji’s anti-corruption efforts.
FICAC aims to foster greater collaboration and support to fight corruption including strengthening of local, inter-organisational and trans-border partnerships.
