FICAC Enters Nolle Prosequi in Pryde Proceedings

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption today entered a nolle prosequi in the proceedings against former Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Christopher Pryde, before the Suva Magistrates Court.

The decision was taken because FICAC has been unable to effect service on Mr Pryde in New Zealand despite attempts to do so.

The matter was called before Resident Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning.

The proceedings concerned charges previously filed in relation to $193,326.64 in payments and reimbursements received during Mr Pryde’s tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions. Those allegations have not been determined by the Court.

Under section 49 of the Criminal Procedure Act 2009, the entry of a nolle prosequi brings the present proceedings to an end but does not prevent subsequent proceedings based on the same facts.
