Corruption Prevention is a shared responsibility
Posted by Media Team 9 December 2025
As the world observes International Anti-Corruption Day today, 9 December, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) says the occasion serves as a reminder of a simple truth: corruption prevention is a responsibility we must address together.
This year’s theme is “Corruption Prevention is Everyone’s Duty.”
Addressing FICAC officers during a programme at the Commission’s Headquarters in Suva, Acting Commissioner Lavi Rokoika said the theme reflects a shared obligation, one that is consistent with FICAC’s statutory mandate and committed to delivering genuine value to the people of Fiji.
Acting Commissioner Rokoika highlighted that to mark IACD this year, FICAC has refrained from ceremonial events and unnecessary spending to ensure that its efforts remain practical, purposeful and aligned with its core functions.
“Our morning has been dedicated to strengthening the capacity of this Commission, through structured training across all departments,” she said.
“This internal programme is not symbolic, but deliberate, to ensure that every officer is prepared to serve with discipline, accountability and integrity.”
She noted that these values are not abstract, but the standards by which the Commission will be judged, and the standards which all officers must uphold.
This afternoon, teams of FICAC officers will be present across strategic locations in Suva, Nausori, Lautoka, Nadi and Labasa to engage with members of the public, share information, respond to queries and distribute materials on corruption prevention, evidence protection and the complaints process.
A special “Ask FICAC” Hotline will also be active between 1pm and 3pm today.
Members of the public are encouraged to call the toll-free number 1322 or 321 0290, where officers will be available to offer guidance and help clarify what may or may not constitute corrupt conduct.
Acting Commissioner Rokoika said the initiative is designed as a community service and a channel of trust, which the Commission will monitor closely to ensure proper follow-up.
Naturally, officers will not discuss ongoing investigations or matters before the courts, but the purpose of the hotline is clear: we are in this together.
“Every act of prevention, every conversation we have, every enquiry we answer and every reminder we give helps to strengthen the foundation of a cleaner and fairer Fiji,” she said.
“And each day that we choose discipline and accountability, we honour our duty to serve you, the people of Fiji, with integrity and purpose.”
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption extends its appreciation to all Fijians and wishes everyone a meaningful International Anti-Corruption Day.
