Trial Date Set for Kamikamica’s Stay Application

The High Court this morning called the Stay Application filed by Member of Parliament, Manoa Kamikamica, before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo-Bull.
The application seeks to permanently stay the criminal proceedings currently before the Magistrates Court, in which Mr Kamikamica faces two charges laid by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
Today’s sitting was a directions hearing only.
During the appearance, the counsel for the Applicant informed the Court that another similar matter is presently before a different judge.
Justice Fa’alogo-Bull sought clarification as to whether the applicant was also involved in that matter, and counsel confirmed that he was not.
The Court then issued the following timetable for the filing and service of documents for the Stay Application:
- 14 January 2026 – Respondent (FICAC) to file and serve its answering affidavit
- 4 February 2026 – Applicant to file any reply affidavit and written submissions
- 25 February 2026 – Respondent to file written submissions.
- 25 February 2026 – Respondent to file written submissions.
- 25 March 2026 – Hearing of the Stay Application at 9.30 a.m.
The matter has been adjourned to 5 February 2026 for any status update/report.
The Commission was represented by Manager Legal Ma’imoa Kabu while Mr Wylie Clarke appeared for Mr Kamikamica.
