Bula Vinaka and Good Morning.
As the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, and host to the planned Study Tour for today and tomorrow, I take this opportunity to welcome the representatives from the PNG ICAC, SIICAC, ACC Tonga, and PSC Samoa. I am thankful to the UNDP Pacific Office Fiji; and the UK International Development for organising a week of events dedicated to advancing anti-corruption efforts in the Pacific region.
To our guests: whilst your Study Tour for these two days will focus in the enhancement of the technical and operational capabilities of your agencies, to enable your agencies to address corruption comprehensively and sustainably; I also strongly believe that through such organised Study Tour, our agencies can all foster cooperation to advance the anti-corruption vision of the Pacific, that is in line with the international and regional commitments such as the Teieniwa Pacific Unity against Corruption Vision.
Some of the related areas that our agencies can foster cooperation are in the areas of anti-corruption legislative and institutional frameworks, anti-corruption capacities and skills in detection of corruption cases, strengthening anti-corruption education in the Pacific, and promoting corruption prevention as improved anti-corruption results.
It is organised events such as this, that recognises the common interests and objectives that our agencies have, therefore, the more need for our collaboration, to share knowledge, skills and information that will strengthen our institutions in the fight against corruption for the mutual benefit of our respective countries and its citizens.
Before I conclude, I again would like to share my immense thank you to UNDP Pacific Office, being our longest strategic partner, and to the UK International Development for organising these avenues and rendering your continuous support in trying to help us all in promoting regional knowledge exchange and partnership towards advancement of the regional and national commitments as stipulated in the Teieniwa Vision and relevant national policy and legislative frameworks.
To our guests, do make the most of it in these two days, and gather as much knowledge you can from our presentations. Ask questions, make notes and share with us your respective legislative and institutional frameworks so that we can all learn from one another.
Thank you.
