Commissioner's message for Pinktober
Posted by Media Team 29 October 2024
October marks an important month in our annual calendar, as it is a month dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and the vital importance of early detection.
It is also a time where we honor the brave and courageous souls who have fought the good fight and those who still continue to do so today, and in spite of the pain they endure.
This initiative not only highlights the challenges faced by those affected by the disease but also emphasizes the significance of regular check-ups.
Regular screenings can lead to early detection, which is crucial for successful treatment.
One way or another, we have all crossed paths with someone we know who is affected by the disease, so therefore, initiatives such as these serve as a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together and support one another.
We must also acknowledge the hard and often thankless work that is put in by organizations such as the Fiji Cancer Society throughout the years.
The Fiji Cancer Society is a non-government organization dedicated to assisting those with cancer, and we cannot thank them enough for their dedication and commitment to the cause.
Some of the services that the Society provides to patients includes awareness and outreach programs, screenings, medication when patients are not under the government free medical list, transportation to and from clinics, visa and passport fees, boat transfers for maritime patients as well as home visits.
Initiatives such as the Pinktober movement and the funds collected from individuals, corporate bodies and government institutions, every cent or dollar that we give, goes a long way to providing such patient support services through the Fiji Cancer Society.
So please, if you can, give generously to the Fiji Cancer Society, as a little goes a long way.
I plead with our beautiful ladies, please go and get a check-up, for your sake and for the sake of your loved ones.
Family is the cornerstone of our society.
We at the Commission firmly believe in the importance of family, and we constantly strive to make FICAC a family-oriented institution.
Our officers are welcome to bring their children to their workspace, should the need arise and we have even created a child-friendly area on the executive floor for such instances, so that officers are able to have peace of mind, whilst carrying out their duties.
With all the hype around Pinktober, we must also keep in mind that coming up next month is another annual event called “Movember”, which involves the men growing moustaches to raise awareness on men’s health issues, in particular prostate and testicular cancer.
So we at the Commission are committed to raising awareness on critical health issues, in order to safeguard the welfare of not only our officers but all citizens of our beloved nation.
May you all be blessed abundantly, and Happy Pinktober month.
