Private individual charged for deception

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has charged a private individual for a corruption related offence.
Aman Abhishek Nambiar appeared before the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday (Thursday, 22 February 2024) charged with one (1) count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.
It is alleged that between 1 October 2021 and 31 October 2021 in the Central Division, Aman Abhishek Nambiar falsely pretended to be a Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Officer to another private individual, and in doing so dishonestly obtained a financial advantage in the sum of FJD $253.00.
State Counsel Ms Mary Takinana informed the Court that the first phase of disclosures has been served.
Resident Magistrate Ms Low granted a non-cash bail of $500 and ordered the accused not to re-offend whilst on bail, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses with other strict bail conditions including reporting to the FICAC Office once a month.
Resident Magistrate Ms Low has also ordered the accused to surrender all travel documents to the Court registry and a stop departure order has been issued against the accused.
The matter has been adjourned to 04 April 2024 for plea.
