A suspect has been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for an electoral offence.
Eveni Cokiverata Koroituku was charged with one (1) count of Non-Interreference In Campaign under Section 111 (1) of the Electoral Act.
It is alleged that on or about 13 November 2022 in Tavua Town, hindered the lawful campaign activity of the FijiFirst Party by tearing off a billboard placement of the FijiFirst Party campaign material.
Resident Magistrate Savou ordered that the accused be remanded in the custody of FICAC and to be produced at the Tavua Magistrate’s Court on 23 November 2022.
The matter has been adjourned to 23 November 2022 at 9am before Magistrate Mr. Samuela Qica.
The Fiji Police Force received the initial complaint and conducted investigation before referring the matter to FICAC under the Electoral Act for further investigation and prosecution.
The Fiji Police Force and FICAC have joined forces to investigate and prosecute offences under the Electoral Act as required under the Electoral laws.
