The Suva Magistrates Court has ruled that a former senior engineer with the Water Authority of Fiji has a case to answer for corruption-related charges.
Mohammed Shafraaz Ali is facing One (1) of Bribery by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
It is alleged that between 1 March 2017 and 30 June 2017, whilst employed at WAF as Regional Engineer Bulk, the accused accepted an advantage in the form of a Fiji Airways return air ticket to Sydney, Australia worth $1430.60.
The advantage was paid on 21 March 2017 by Sphynx Solutions Pte Limited on account of Ali performing an act in his capacity as a public servant.
The matter was listed yesterday, 29 August 2024 to check on the No Case To Answer ruling.
Resident Magistrate Jeremaia Savou took into consideration the submissions made by both parties and ruled that there is a case to answer against the accused person on the charged offense.
The Defense Counsel sought time to acquire further instructions from the accused to provide a better position on the next cause of action.
The matter has been adjourned to 19 September 2024 to check on defence position.
